What's happening to remove.bg
remove.bg's standalone website shuts down on December 1, 2026, and the service moves inside Canva. If you've been using the site, your options are to sign up for Canva and keep paying per image through credits, or to switch to something that does the job without a subscription.
What Liftmask does the same
- Drop in a photo, get a clean cutout in one click. Products, people, pets, food, logos, line art.
- Full-resolution transparent PNG. Also JPEG, HEIC, WebP, and SVG for cutters.
- Batch processing for a whole folder of listing photos.
- Swap in a new background: studio sweeps, gradients, paper, marble, or your own photo.
What's different
- Where it runs. remove.bg uploads every photo to a server. Liftmask runs two AI models on your Mac; nothing leaves the machine, and it works offline.
- What it costs. remove.bg sells credits per image or monthly plans. Liftmask is $29.99 once. The free version has every editing tool, exports up to 1500 px, and never expires.
- What happens after the cutout. Liftmask keeps going: text and shapes, marketplace presets that size the export for Etsy, Amazon, Shopify and Instagram, sticker sheets with cut lines for Cricut, and erase and restore brushes for the spots the model misses.
- Where it falls short, honestly. remove.bg is still better on very fine hair against a bright background. Liftmask's next engine stage addresses exactly that. On products, people with normal hair or hats, pets, food and artwork, the results are on par.

Questions people ask when switching
Does Liftmask need an internet connection?
No. The models are inside the app. The only time it goes online is to fetch optional photo backdrops and fonts, and to check a code once when you activate.
Is there a per-image limit?
No credits, no counters. Run as many photos as you like; the paid version also runs them in batches.
Does it work on Intel Macs?
Yes. It's a universal app. The IS-Net engine takes a few seconds per image on Intel and under a second on Apple silicon.
What does the free version leave out?
Nothing in the editing toolset, and it never expires. Exports are capped at 1500 px on the long edge; batch, marketplace presets, WebP, SVG and sticker sheets are in the paid version.
What if it doesn't work on my photos?
Try the free version first; it uses the same engines. If you buy and it isn't right for you, email and we'll make it right.
