Brass Shutter
Freeze the exact moment from your own videos — the catch, the goal, the first steps — shape it for Instagram, Stories or YouTube, add your own words, and save it in seconds. Or click + Storyboard as the video plays and build a whole storyboard without ever pausing.

Download for Mac Download for Windows
Free for 14 days with every feature — no code needed to try it. Mac: macOS 12 or newer, Intel and Apple silicon · Windows: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) · one code covers both. On Windows, your browser may warn about a new download: here's how to get past it.
The exact frame
Press S or the brass shutter and it catches the frame on screen at the video's full resolution. Step one frame at a time with , and . to land on the right one.
Shaped for social
One click for 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 Stories and Reels, 16:9 YouTube, 2:3 and 1:2 pins and more, at the exact pixel sizes each site asks for. Drag to choose what's in frame, or fit the whole picture on a blurred background.
Your words on it
Add as many lines of text as you like and drag them into place. Nine fonts, any colour, with a shadow, outline or box so it reads over busy video — and it stays editable.
Storyboards
Click + Storyboard beside the shutter (or press B) and the frame drops straight into your storyboard — no dialog, no pause, the video keeps playing. Caption them, reorder them, and keep as many storyboards as you like.
Export them all at once
A storyboard exports as a folder of numbered images named by caption ("01 The handoff.jpg"), all at the shape and size you pick, plus an optional storyboard sheet as a PDF.
See the file size first
PNG, JPEG or WebP, the size and the quality — the file size updates as you go, before anything is saved. Saves never overwrite an earlier frame.
Made for the moments you film
Your kid's game, the recital, the family trip, your own YouTube videos: find the frame, shape it for where it's going, put the words on it, done. Everything happens on your computer — nothing is uploaded.
A proper player, too
A playlist, frame-by-frame stepping, an A→B loop, speed from quarter-speed to 4×, rotate and mirror (frames save the way you see them), subtitles from SRT or VTT files with size and timing controls, and a shortcut for everything.
It plays MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and most MKV files, plus common audio. Older formats such as WMV, AVI and FLV need converting to MP4 first — the free HandBrake app does it in a few clicks.
